Once you have installed the DeviceWatcher Probe file on your InterMapper Machine and the DeviceWatcher Deamon on the machines you want to monitor, you can begin to use it.
Setting up the DeviceWatcher Probe
- Open the InterMapper file that you want to use for monitoring your machines
- Choose "Add new device(s)" from the "Network" Menu.
- Enter the IP Number or DNS Name for your target machine.
- Choose "DeviceWatcher" from the "Probe Type" popup menu.

- The DeviceWatcher Probe settings dialog appears.

- Enter the path to the partition you want to monitor. The probe uses the UNIX
df command to get the information about the disk usage. So you need to match the path you enter here with the path given in the df output.
- Enter the Alarm level in %. The probe will go into the alarm state when the disk space in use exceeds the Alarm level.
We recommend that you use the "Label..." command in the "Layout" Menu to give the probe a meaningful name that lets you identify the monitored partition at a single glance.
Monitoring the disk usage
DeviceWatcher not only gives an alarm if you disk space usage exceeds a certain level, it also lets you see the exact level currently in use. To get this information
- Switch the InterMapper Map into monitoring mode.
- Press and hold the mouse button while the mouse pointer is above the probe:

Changing the port for DeviceWatcher
If you want DeviceWatcher to operate on a different network port, you can enter it in the "Port" field of the "Add new device(s)" dialog box. If you do, you also need to change the port the DeviceWatcher Deamon on your target machine listens to. If you do not enter a port number, the default port (10001) is used.
